The US Coast Guard says it is still carrying out an "active search and rescue operation", adding that it "remains hopeful at this point".

Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard, who is leading the search for Titan, told Sky News
that the focus of the unified command is on "maximising the use" of assets on scene and a discussion about when the search effort would potentially end hasn't yet taken place.

He added that sounds detected by a Canadian aircraft earlier this week were generated by "background ocean noise" according to initial analysis by the US Navy.
