Simon Mayne's 20-year-old son Richard was on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 travelling to Australia to study when the plane was shot out of the sky, killing all on board.

He tells Anna Jones about the pain of the last eight years and how the hearing in The Hague was a vindication of "what it means to be part of a free, democratic state".

Despite Russia denying responsibility for the attack, the court found three members of a pro-Russian-backed army in eastern Ukraine guilty of murder, sentencing them to life imprisonment.
