A meteor lit up the night sky over parts of England and France as it burned up in the atmosphere over the English Channel in the early hours of Monday morning.
The asteroid, named Sar2667, was only the seventh to be discovered prior to entering Earth’s atmosphere, according to the International Meteor Organization (IMO).
It was first detected on Feb. 12 at the GINOP KHK observatory in Hungary, the IMO said, and was confirmed by the Visnjan observatory in Croatia.
