A technical outage impacting McDonald’s operations across the globe is “not related to a cybersecurity event,” its Canadian division says.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s Canada said Friday the fast-food chain is working to resolve the issue.

In Japan, the company halted operations at many stores due to the systems trouble. While outages were also reported in Australia Hong Kong and in Canada.

“We often hear of system trouble at banks, but not at McDonald’s. I’m a little surprised,” said one customer, Mayumi Tomita.

McDonald’s has about 40,000 restaurants worldwide, with more than 1,400 locations in Canada and more than 14,000 stores in the U.S.
