Maui wildfires: Travellers urged to stay away as Hawaii struggles with rescues, recoveries

Maui is the top destination for Canadians vacationing in Hawaii, which hosts nearly 300,000 Canadians every year. Now at Kahului airport, streams of people are rushing to secure outgoing flights after fleeing the fast-moving wildfires.

As people evacuate — with rescues and recoveries still happening, and months of rebuilding still ahead — Hawaii's lieutenant governor is urging others to stay away.

Those with plans to visit Maui are encouraged to call their travel agent or directly contact their airline, hotel or tour operator to cancel or postpone any trips they had booked.

Many hotels and airlines are being flexible, waiving change and cancellation fees. Globall’s Catherine Urquhart has the details.
