March 7, 2023: China warns U.S., Search in Mexico for kidnapped Americans, Bakhmut, Medicare, Walgreens
1. The United States should change its "distorted" attitude towards China or "conflict and confrontation" will follow, China's foreign minister said, while defending its stance on the war in Ukraine and defending its close ties with Russia.
2. Mexican and U.S. authorities said they were working to find four Americans who were shot at by gunmen in northern Mexico and then kidnapped shortly after crossing the border.
3. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy publicly committed his troops to holding out in Bakhmut after days in which they had seemed likely to withdraw, apparently prolonging the war's bloodiest battle in a bid to break Moscow's assault force.
4. U.S. President Joe Biden will seek to raise the Medicare tax on high earners and push for more drug price negotiations to help keep the federal health insurance program solvent through at least 2050 as part of his budget proposal this week, the White House said.
5. California will not do business with Walgreens, state Governor Gavin Newsom said in a tweet on Monday, days after the pharmacy chain said it would not dispense abortion pills in some Republican-dominated states.
