The Tataskweyak Cree Nation in Manitoba has declared a state of emergency over a series of deaths and self-harm incidents recently. In a news release, the First Nation says: "we have reached a breaking point and our community is under crisis, with alcohol and drugs contributing to it."

The community of Split Lake is about 700 kilometres north of Winnipeg, and about 2,300 people live there. David Akin spoke with Chief Doreen Spence about the mental health crisis in her community, and the help the First Nation is pleading for.
