Manchester mayor launches investigation after Sky's strip search report

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham says an investigation has been launched into claims women were unnecessarily strip searched while in police custody.

An investigation by our home editor Jason Farrell uncovered the claims of three women, one of whom alleged she was drugged and sexually assaulted while held by Greater Manchester Police.

Mr Burnham said the claims, and those of two other women, will be "fully, properly and independently investigated".

He also said he had full confidence in the force.
