Man punches bear during close encounter in Naramata, BC

A man suffered minor injuries after coming face-to-face with a young black bear in Naramata, B.C. on Sunday, on his way back home from checking on his garden.

Penticton Conservation Officer Mike Stern said the man punched the bear and managed to escape with only a few scratches on his arm and did not need medical attention.

“We believe that the bear was probably getting some grapes right there and they basically surprised each other so, at this point, I don’t believe there’s a public safety issue,” said Stern.
