Locals have filed police reports against the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Malaysia for what they say is the illegal killing of monkeys.
Long-tailed macaques are protected under law, but may be killed by officers if the animal is a danger to human life or property.
The wildlife department said it acted on complaints about damage to property and threats to safety, but locals said they have coexisted with the monkeys for years and lawyers say the macaques should have been relocated, not killed.
