“We are laying a foundation of a new political party — Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party,” announced Tareen at a press conference flanked by former PTI leaders including Aleem Khan, Imran Ismail and others on Thursday.

Tareen, who is a former close aide of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and played a major in the formation of the PTI –led government in 2018, said that he joined politics to play his role for the betterment of the country.Finance Minister Ishaq Dar Thursday took the wraps off the Pakistan Economic Survey 2022-23, a document that sums up the government’s performance, to the utter dismay of economists as none of the targets was met, while the GDP growth rate crashed to 0.3%, which can be chalked up to natural and political disasters.

Dar’s first budget for this government’s complete fiscal year would be eagle-eyed by the analysts for any hints about populist dole-outs and they would also try to ascertain if the government was willing to pursue economic discipline required to enter another International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
