Results have been pouring in overnight, and we still have a long way to go until the final declaration from York is expected to arrive at 8pm.

As of now, Labour has gained control of two councils and five have fallen out of Conservative hands - signalling a bad night so far for the Tories.

Labour gained control of Plymouth and Stoke-on-Trent in the early hours of the morning.

The situation isn't so positive for the Conservatives, who have lost control of Tamworth, Brentwood, East Lindsay, Hertsmere and North West Leicestershire;

Sir Ed Davey has been up early reacting to moves (or lack of) in Liberal Democrat councils. As of now, they have gained 23 seats - and kept hold of five councils.
