The UN Security Council is to table a vote on a resolution calling for an "urgent and sustainable cessation of hostilities" in Gaza. The US has publicly said it could not support a reference to a "cessation of hostilities", which it vetoed last week, but might accept a call for a "suspension of hostilities". The current draft, submitted by the UAE, calls for an "urgent and sustainable cessation of hostilities to allow safe and unhindered humanitarian access in the Gaza Strip" and "stresses the importance of unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority."
