Gordon Lightfoot, often called Canada’s greatest songwriter and known worldwide as one of the founding fathers of folk rock, has died at age 84, according to a representative of his family.

Lightfoot had recently cancelled all of his 2023 tour dates due to “health-related issues.”

An iconic figure in the ‘60s and ‘70s, Lightfoot wrote songs that transcended borders and music tastes, including ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,’ ‘Ribbon of Darkness’ and ‘If You Could Read My Mind.’
