Lebanon has signed an agreement with Jordan to receive electricity through Syria.
The deal will not face any US sanctions after receiving a special waiver from Washington.
Yet the transaction is not expected to solve Lebanon's power shortages, providing only a few more hours a day of electricity.
It is instead being seen as a breakthrough for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's isolated regime.
Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr reports from Beirut.
