Buildings burned as lava continued to pour down the Cumbre Vieja volcano on Spain's La Palma island on Saturday.

The Canary Islands Volcanology Institute said that part of the main cone had collapsed on Saturday morning. It tweeted footage of dark ash clouds billowing from the volcano.

Flames engulfed buildings and a dog was seen running away from the lava flow, Reuters video showed.

Lava from the volcano has covered nearly 800 hectares (2,000 acres) of land, destroying 2,000 buildings and many banana plantations since the eruption started on September 19.

More than 6,000 people have had to leave their homes.
