Drone footage released on Tuesday evening by the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute (IGME) showed "lava bombs" being ejected from La Palma's volcano as plumes of dark smoke rose from the erupting crater.
La Palma's regional government said on Tuesday the surface covered by lava streams has an extension of 1,136 hectares and a perimeter of 55 km.
The island's authorities said on Tuesday volcanic activity displayed a descending trend with seismic movements on the decline. The volcano continues to expel a high level of toxic gas, they said.
PEVOLCA said on Sunday that new vents had opened up on the cone with several very fluid lava flows.
