King Charles told the U.K. parliament on Monday he was "resolved faithfully to follow" his mother, Queen Elizabeth's "selfless duty" when addressing lawmakers and peers at a ceremony in Westminster Hall.

The ceremony saw speakers of the House of Lords and House of Commons offering their sympathies to the new King, who paid tribute to parliament as "the living and breathing instrument of our democracy."
