Former Minneapolis-area police officer Kim Potter was found guilty Thursday of first-degree and second-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright in April 2021, when she grabbed her firearm instead of her Taser and shot Wright during a traffic stop.
The officer was accused by prosecutors of acting recklessly and negligently as they argued the case before a jury, who did not have to determine if Potter intended to shoot Wright in their deliberations.
As Sean Previl explains, Potter was taken into custody despite opposition by her lawyers and is set to be sentenced on Feb. 18.
