U.S. Vice-President Kamala Harris called India's severe COVID-19 situation "tragic" on Friday.

"We as a country have made commitment to the people of India to support them," she said.

Harris made the remarks following a roundtable in Cincinnati on investments in public transit.

That same day, additional pallets of oxygen cylinders were packaged to leave Travis Air Force Base in California on April 28, headed for India, where a second wave of coronavirus has seen hospitals struggle.

The White House has said the U.S. would supply India with more than $100 million worth of “urgent relief.”
