July 11, 2023: NATO meets, Ukraine membership, Russia strikes as leaders visit, Trump Mar-a-Lago case, Iowa abortion ban, Israel

1. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday it would be absurd if Ukraine is not offered a timeframe for NATO membership at an alliance summit in Lithuania.

2. Russia attacked Kyiv and the southern port of Odesa with drones early on Tuesday, Ukrainian officials said, hours before the start of a NATO summit in Lithuania discussing security threats from Moscow.

3. Donald Trump and an aide, Walt Nauta, have asked a federal court in Florida to postpone the criminal trial in the Mar-a-Lago documents case and drop the current date, a filing by the former U.S. president's lawyers showed.

4. Iowa's Republican-controlled legislature will consider a ban on abortions as soon as fetal cardiac activity can be detected, after around six weeks of pregnancy and before most women know they are pregnant.

5. Israeli protesters blocked major highways and faced off with police on Tuesday as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's hard-right coalition pressed ahead with a contested bill that seeks curbs to the power of the Supreme Court.
