New York Mayor Eric Adams spoke on Wednesday, more than a week after 30-year-old Jordan Neely died from being put in a chokehold by a subway passenger in a video that has since circulated widely.

Adams outlined a series of initiatives intended to improve mental health support for NYC residents in mental health crisis.

"There are more Jordans out there," Adams told reporters Wednesday. "People in need of love, compassion, treatment, protection."

According to witnesses and law enforcement sources, Neely was panhandling and shouting on the train before a 24-year-old man, later identified as a U.S. Marine, was seen on video grabbing Neely and putting him into a chokehold while holding him on the ground.

Neely's death has been deemed a homicide, however the medical examiner has not ruled if it was the chokehold that killed him.

Police questioned the 24-year-old Marine who restrained Neely and have since released him.
