Speaking to Sophy Ridge on Sunday, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said that he "profoundly disagrees" with Gary Lineker, but admits it is for the BBC to solve the ongoing problem it has.

He said: "I think what we want to come out of this is people feeling confident that the BBC is on the right track when it comes to independence, impartiality, all these things that really matter."

Chaos erupted at the BBC this weekend after Mr Lineker was forced to "step back" from Match of the Day over an impartiality row.
