Japan’s former foreign minister is set to become its next prime minister after winning a leadership election in the governing Liberal Democratic Party.
Fumio Kishida has pledged to lead the party to success in the general election due to be held by November.
Kishida replaces the unpopular Yoshihide Suga, who is stepping down after only one year in office.
