Japan began to release treated radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean on Thursday, beginning the process it had first agreed to two years ago.

The move comes even as protests have formed both in and outside the country over concerns the impact the water could have on the environment and people's health. Part of the concern comes over the isotope tritium and what could happen if it gets into fish from the surrounding area and then is consumed by people.

As Sean Previl reports, nuclear analysts have stressed the release meets international safety standards but it isn't stopping some countries like China from taking action.
