Israeli military, Gaza militants in heaviest fighting in months as Palestinian deaths mount

Israel’s army and Palestinian militants exchanged heavy cross-border fire on Wednesday, with hundreds of rockets launched from Gaza towards Israel after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out deadly strikes on what it says are Islamic Jihad organization targets along the strip.

The latest violence comes a day after Israeli military airstrikes killed three leaders of the Palestinian militant group and 10 other Palestinian men, women and children in Gaza and led to threats of retaliation. At least six Palestinians were killed in Wednesday’s airstrikes, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, revising its earlier count.

“We are living in fear that no one can bear. We are devastated from (the) inside even if we end up alive after wars, we need psychiatric treatment for the pain that we experience. We are sleeping during the day and awake at night waiting in fear. We say goodbye to each other before we sleep because we are afraid of not waking up," said Doa’a Abu Eteyma, the cousin of an air strike victim from Gaza, during his funeral.

Meanwhile, Tel Aviv resident Daniel said that “This is our reality for many years, as far as I can remember. For me, it’s just a normal day, a normal morning, doing my regular routine.” He added that “If we try to behave differently, it’s just another win for the terror.”
