On Monday, during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on the Israel-Hamas conflict, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten detailed findings from a recent mission to Israel, aimed at investigating sexual violence related to the Oct. 7 attacks.

Conducted between Jan. 29 and Feb. 14, the mission uncovered "reasonable grounds to believe" that there was evidence of conflict-related sexual violence, including rape and gang rape. Patten added that this occurred in at least three locations, namely the Nova Music Festival site and its surroundings, Route 232 and Kibbutz Re'im."

"The Israeli hostages and the millions of civilians in Gaza share a common fate. For their common sake, there must be a humanitarian ceasefire now," Patten said.

The UN team said it also received information from institutional and civil society sources and direct interviews regarding "sexual violence against Palestinian men and women in detention settings, during house raids and at checkpoints" after Oct. 7. The detention centers were in Israel, and the team recommended a "fully-fledged investigation."
