Addressing Canada's Parliament on Monday, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre responded to the ongoing situation in Israel and Gaza, saying that Hamas is not a militant organization, government or activist group, but rather a “sadistic criminal, terrorist death cult” and that it “must be defeated.”

“The suffering of the Palestinian people is a tragedy. Every innocent human life — Palestinian or Israeli. Jewish, Muslim, Christian or otherwise, is of equal precious value. All of us must do everything in our power to preserve this precious life and minimize the suffering of innocent civilians,” Poilievre said.

“Let us be clear though: This is not incidental to Hamas’ actions — It was the purpose of Hamas’ actions. Hamas not only seeks the maximum suffering of the Israeli people, it seeks the maximum suffering of Palestinians as well,” Poilievre added.

The eyes of the world have been on Gaza ahead of a looming Israeli ground offensive and mounting fears about the true scale of the humanitarian cost of an Israeli Defense Force (IDF) ground offensive and the potential for horrifying collateral damage. Five Canadians have been confirmed killed in the Hamas terrorist attack last week.
