Israel, Egypt and the European Union have signed an energy agreement that allows Israel to send its natural gas to Egyptian ports, and then export it to Europe.
The EU is trying to move away from its dependence on Russian energy, and ease soaring gas prices.
For its part, Israel had frozen gas exploration as it tried to meet renewable energy targets, but the search for alternatives to Russian fuel has offered too good an opportunity to ignore.
Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports from West Jerusalem.
