Israel demolishes Palestinian school in occupied West Bank

Israeli authorities demolished a Palestinian school in the occupied West Bank on Sunday that they said was constructed “illegally.”

COGAT, a branch of the Israeli military, said in a statement that the school, about two kilometres from Bethlehem, was “dangerous to the safety of anyone studying or otherwise visiting there.”

Students said they arrived at the school on Sunday to find it had been destroyed.

“We got ready to come to school and when we arrived we didn’t find the school,” said one student, Mohammed Ibrahim. “We want a school today! We want to study: if they will keep demolishing, we will keep rebuilding. We want to study at our school.”

The Palestinian Authority called the demolition a “heinous crime” and said it would deprive children of a “free, safe and stable” education.
