The Israeli army has demolished a Palestinian suspect’s family home on the West Bank.
Muntasser Shalaby was arrested on suspicion of a deadly drive-by shooting on May 2 that killed an Israeli and wounded two others in the occupied West Bank.
His estranged wife, Sanaa Shalaby, who lived in the two-story villa with their children, filed a petition to retain the home, claiming she knew nothing about the attack, but it was rejected by an Israeli court.
Israel claims destroying family homes is one of the only ways to deter attackers, because they expect to be arrested or killed and are often glorified by Palestinian factions.
The US State Department has criticized this method of deterrent in the past. An internal Israeli military review in the 2000s also raised questions about the demolitions' effectiveness.
