Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser visited the site of a horrific mass shooting Friday at a Jehovah’s Witness hall in the northern city of Hamburg, as police identified the suspected shooter, who they said was among the dead.

“It is truly horrifying and I am deeply moved,” she said as she praised police and first responders for their quick response.

Eight people were killed in the attack and several others injured before the gunman turned the gun on himself. Police don’t have any other suspects.

On Friday, police identified the suspected gunman as a 35-year-old German national who was a former member of the congregation.

Michael Tsifidaris, regional spokesperson for the Jehovah’s Witnesses, said it was “shocking” that the gunman was a former member.

“This is in complete contradiction to all the values and principles for which we stand and which we also advocate in our life of faith,” he said.

The motive for the attack is unclear, according to police.
