The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis will make the first ever papal visit to Iraq in March. The announcement comes as Iraq’s Christian population is diminishing.
In 2003, before the US-led invasion deposed then-President Saddam Hussein, there were more than one million Christians in the country. The war with the ISIL from 2014 to 2017 reduced that number to about 300,000.
Al Jazeera's Simona Foltyn reports from the Christian town of Bartella in northern Iraq.
