Iranians are casting their votes in an emergency snap election after the death of Ebrahim Raisi who was killed in a helicopter crash.

The ballot is tightly controlled by an assembly of clerics and jurists and all of it ultimately takes place under the watchful eye of the Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Only four presidential candidates remain in the election in what is perhaps the only chance for the electorate to make any kind of point.
