Video shared on social media showed protesters in Iran gathered at the campus of Amirkabir University in Tehran on Wednesday. The students could be heard chanting "Don’t be afraid, we are all together" and "Down with the whole regime!"

Additional footage appeared to show protests at Ferdowsi University in the city of Mashhad, and security forces reportedly dispersing demonstrators.

Meanwhile, Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi called the U.S. "the most despotic country and greatest dictatorship in the world," while giving a speech to students at the University of Tehran to mark Student Day on Wednesday.

Iran has been gripped by unrest since the death of 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman Mahsa Amini in police custody on Sept 16., and is facing a three-day general strike movement, which started on Monday.
