Speaking alongside his Turkish counterpart on Wednesday, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahan warned Israel of "harsh consequences" if attacks continue on the Gaza Strip.

After three weeks of consistent bombardment and the death of more than 8,750 Palestinians, Amirabdollahan threatened that if the attacks on Gaza are not put to an end, a "decisive and significant" decision will be made.

This comes as the latest in several warnings from Iran, which backs Hamas militants in Gaza, but claims it did not play a role in their Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

The Palestinian militant group stormed southern Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,400 and taking 240 hostages — ultimately triggering the violent Israeli response.

As the border between Gaza and Egypt opened once again on Wednesday — and allowed the first evacuees to flee the region since the conflict kicked off three weeks ago — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Turkey is actively working to evacuate Turkish citizens from Gaza.
