Iran and the European Union say they are waiting for a response from the U.S. on the EU's proposal aimed at reinstating Tehran's 2015 nuclear deal, with foreign policy chief Josep Borrell saying the world would be a safer place if the agreement was reached.

Borrell also spoke about Iran's response to the EU's proposal, calling it "reasonable," though did not elaborate on what was contained in the response, nor the proposal itself. It followed 16 months of fitful, indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran with the EU acting as a shuttle between both parties.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani also spoke Monday about the proposal, but criticized the U.S. for not having responded to the EU yet, but added that while they haven't reached a nuclear agreement, progress has been made.
