Inside the Gaza hospitals facing catastrophe

In Gaza, hospitals are receiving an endless influx of injured patients, and as infrastructure starts to collapse, medical staff struggle to save lives.

In this film, we see how Gaza’s many hospitals are coping since the war with Israel began a week ago, as Israel commenced airstrikes which it says are targeting Hamas, which is a proscribed terrorist group in the UK, after it killed more than 1,400 people in Israel. To date, at least 5,800 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza, and 16,000 wounded, according to the Hamas-run Health Authority.

With complex injuries to treat, dwindling staff and a severe lack of resources, we see the impact of the war on Gaza’s most at-risk; from premature babies in incubators, to patients with kidney failure who rely on dialysis, and gravely injured victims of bombings depending on ventilators, as fuel runs short.

These graphic scenes, filmed by news agencies and Channel 4 News's filmmaker in Gaza, Yousef Hammash, show what patients and doctors say they are facing, across multiple medical facilities in the Gaza Strip, as the siege enters its third week. The IDF has previously said: "Wherever a Hamas target arises, the IDF will strike at it in order to thwart the terrorist capabilities of the group, while taking feasible precautions to mitigate the harm to uninvolved civilians." And a warning - many of the scenes are very distressing and show serious injuries.
