Shanghai rolled out an inhalable COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday as a booster shot, according to Shanghai Media Group (SMG), as caseloads were on the rise in China.

The inhalation vaccination involves a two-step process: the atomization of the vaccine and the inhalation, as reported by SMG. The recipient has to inhale deeply via their mouth for 15 seconds and then hold their breath for another five seconds.

Plus, residents in major Chinese cities expressed worries on Thursday, after authorities doubled down on COVID-19 curbs by sealing up buildings, and locking down districts, in a scramble to halt widening outbreaks.

China reported over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases nationwide on Thursday for a third straight day, triggering more curbs and restrictions across the country.

Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated the validity of the zero-COVID strategy and stressed its effectiveness at the 20th Communist Party Congress last week.
