Prominent Muslim scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Egyptian-born former head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), breathed his last on Monday, informed his official Twitter account.
The Qatar based scholar was 96 years old.
Qaradawi, for many years, he had a religious phone-in show on Al Jazeera TV that was watched by tens of millions.
Qaradawi backed the pro-democracy uprisings against the leaders of Egypt, Libya and Syria during the Arab Spring.
