Infected blood inquiry: Families who lost relatives to get £100,000 compensation

Parents who were bereaved or children who lost their parents through the infected blood scandal are to receive an interim payment acknowledging their loss.

The infected blood scandal affected the lives of tens of thousands of NHS patients who were unknowingly given contaminated blood products between the 1970s and 1991.

Sir Brian Langstaff, Chairman of the Infected Blood Inquiry, said the second interim report recognised "the wrongs done by authority whose response served to compound people's suffering".
