At least 200 people were killed and more than 900 injured in Balasore, India on Friday after a train collision involving three separate trains.

The Howrah Superfast Express derailed and became entangled with the Coromandel Express, South Eastern Railway authorities said in a statement. Media reports had earlier said the crash was between the Coromandel Express and a freight train.

"All possible assistance" is being provided to those affected, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet where he expressed his sympathies for the victims of the tragedy.

A victim of the collision recounted his own harrowing experience, saying: "10-15 people fell on me when the accident happened, and everything was haywire. I was at the bottom of the pile.” He said he injured both his hand and neck.

Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena called the incident “violent and tragic.”
