Compulsory testing of India’s cough medicines meant for export comes into effect on Thursday.
The new rule was introduced to restore consumer confidence in the so-called "pharmacy of the world".
Child deaths in The Gambia and Uzbekistan last year were linked to contaminated cough syrup from large Indian generic drugmakers.
