India, the world's largest exporter of rice, is banning the export of small and medium-grain rice.

The announcement comes mere days after Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which allowed the safe passage of grain exports from Ukrainian ports to other countries during Russia’s war in Ukraine.
