Heavy rainfall and wind at New Delhi's main airport on Friday caused a roof to collapse, killing one person and disrupting flights from a domestic terminal.

"The situation is under control. The rest of the terminal building has been closed off and everything is being thoroughly inspected so that any other untoward incident does not happen here," India's aviation minister, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said.

New Delhi received 228.1 mm of rainfall in 24 hours at its main Safdarjung weather station according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The heavy rains caused disrupted flights, metro station closure, blocked underpasses, and led to massive traffic jams, turning the city's relief from the heat into chaos.

"My regular commute to Karol Bagh usually takes 45 minutes but today it has been an hour and 45 minutes already because of the heavy traffic jam on roads," said Amir Ansari, a Delhi resident.
