The thousands trapped at the border are caught in the middle of a diplomatic spat and paying the price with their health and sometimes their lives.
Poland says there have been more than 5,000 attempted crossings from Belarus so far in November, compared with 120 last year.
With the Polish winter fast approaching, refugees are increasingly desperate to flee their precarious position, caught in a political maelstrom between Belarus and the European Union.
