Hurricane Idalia strengthened with alarming speed as it approached Florida’s Gulf Coast, ripping through the state as it made its way towards Georgia.

It has since weakened to a tropical storm, but not before submerging structures, swamping coastal communities and turning roads into rivers in Florida.
