Hurricane Ida: Storm's wrath shows US is ill-prepared for climate disasters

Nearly a week since Hurricane Ida made landfall in the Gulf Coast, the ensuing disaster has exposed how ill-prepared the United States is for the climate crisis. The cleanup continues in the northeast U.S., after devastating flash flooding from the hurricane left 50 people dead. President Joe Biden also plans to tour the aftermath in parts of New York and New Jersey to get a first hand look at the damage.

Extreme weather has cost the country $450 billion in damage nationwide since 2005. As Jennifer Johnson reports, many lawmakers want to see bigger changes to prevent this from happening again.
