Hurricane Fiona roared over the Dominican Republic Monday after knocking out the power across all of Puerto Rico, causing damage the governor said was “catastrophic.” Many people were left without water service.
It brought maximum sustained winds of an estimated 145 km/h, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said, in the Dominican Republic.
The Dominican Republic’s Center of Emergency Operations reported 16 provinces were on red alert, including La Romana, and 16 provinces were on yellow alert on Monday due to "heavy downpours, electrical storms and gusts of wind."
