More than 500 Rohingya refugees landed on the shores of Indonesia’s Aceh province on Sunday, the fourth wave of arrivals from Myanmar this week, a local representative from the United Nations’ refugee agency said.
The large number of refugees arriving in the province has strained resources, both locals and the UNHCR representative said.
"It’s not that we don’t want to receive them, but our facilities are not sufficient," said one man, Munawir Abdullah.
Hundreds of Muslim Rohingya, a persecuted minority in Myanmar, have arrived in Aceh province in recent days, bringing the total number in the region to more than a thousand.
